Talitha Getty, wife of oil heir John Paul Getty Jr., spent much of her time in Morocco where she became known for her signature hippie-chic aesthetic. She combined haute couture with exotic, Eastern-influenced garments like harem pants and caftans, always accenting any look with costume jewelry and her signature smoky eye that she claimed could only be achieved with Marrakech coal. Yves Saint Laurent said she was one of the “beautiful and the damned” icons of the era, while Diane von Furstenberg called her “a very bright creature who wanted to dance under the stars—and danced too fast.” Getty died of a drug overdose in Rome in 1971. She was and continues to be a muse for some of the top designers in the world, from Valentino to Chloe. Talitha Getty’s style was the inspiration for MISRED’s Black Label Getty Dress, which features flowing lines and is constructed of mixed vintage fabrics.
